in Tried and True Recipes

In addition to sharing this recipe on my Weekly Menu Post, I am also sharing it with the readers at Tammy’s Recipes.  I have a nasty cold and am on a blogging break. Since this is the only new kitchen related post I have, I figured you all would rather have this instead of my box of tissues. Enjoy!

This recipe is really easy to make and tastes so much better than the packaged varieties out there.  Initially,  if you do not have the spices on hand, it will cost you some extra money to purchase them.  Buy just a few at a time and buy the inexpensive ones. They taste just fine. This recipe equals one seasoning packet mix that you would buy from the store and will season one pound of meat. You can certainly increase the ingredient size if you want to store some in the pantry. I took a picture of the seasoning,  it is not the best, but you can get an idea of what it looks like.

Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons paprika
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon dried onion flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
    1/8 teaspoon ground oregano

Directions:

  1. Mix ingredients in a bowl.  I usually put it in a plastic container and let my kids shake it up.
  2. After the ground beef is done cooking, sprinkle homemade taco seasoning over the beef.
  3. Add about 3/4 cups of water.
  4. Allow to simmer for about 6-8 minutes until the water is absorbed into the meat and seasonings.

That is it.  It is really easy and best of all, it has no MSG!

Thank you for posting this taco seasoning recipe. I already have most of the seasonings in my cabinet. I only have to pick up a few. I think that I will make this recipe in bulk because my family loves tacos.

I am so glad I stumbled upon your blog. I always try to buy the packets on sale and never even thought of making up my own. This is going to save so much. We LOVE tacos!
